The American Optometric Association recently celebrated the 10th anniversary of InfantSEE. InfantSEE is a volunteer program that provides no-cost eye care to infants for their first eye exam. This exam occurs at 6-12 months of age, and its goal is to identify early-life eye disease, or refractive conditions (nearsightedness, farsightedness, or astigmatism) that could prevent normal development of vision (i.e. amblyopia). Among the milestones achieved by this great program:

  • More than 118,000 babies have been seen by InfantSEE doctors.
  • Providers discover significant ocular problems in approximately 10 percent of babies.
  • 1,300 optometrists currently provide this service across the United States, among them are Dr. Brian Abert, O.D., FAAO, Dr. Deanna Pedroza, O.D., and Dr. Melissa Vanray, O.D. at Vista Eye Care!
